Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an All India common engineering entrance examination which is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission in various engineering colleges all over India. This exam is conducted at UG level. This exam was started from the year 2012 in place of AIEEE and IIT JEE. There are two types of JEE – JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
JEE Main has two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 should be optioned by the students who seek for admission in B.E or B.Tech. Paper 2 should be optioned by the students who seek for admission in B.Arch and B.Planning. Paper 1 is conducted in both online and offline mode. The candidates are allowed to choose their mode of examination. Whereas Paper 2 is conducted through offline mode only.
Guidelines to candidates appearing for computer based examination for Paper 1 of JEE main 2016
Candidates must carry their admit card to the examination centre on the day of exam. The candidate should also check whether all the details provided in the admit card like Name, Paper, Date of Birth, Gender, Test Centre Name, City, State Code of Eligibility and Category are correct and as it is in the application form.
If there is any wrong information provided in the admit card then the candidate has to contact the JEE Main Secretariat for immediate action.
Candidates without admit card are not allowed to write the exam. The candidate has to show the admit card to the centre superintendent before entering the examination hall.
The candidates should also submit all the necessary documents to the invigilator at the exam centre. The documents required are listed below.
1. Copy of their final mark sheet of XII or its equivalent qualifying exam for the year 2014 or 2015.
2. Copy of their hall ticket for candidates who have opted for improvement of performance in all the five subjects in the year 2016.
3. Copy of their hall ticket for candidates who are appearing for class XII or its equivalent qualifying exam in the year 2016.
The candidate should reach the exam centre half an hour prior to the exam timing. The registration desk will be closed five minutes prior to the exam timing. Candidates are not allowed to enter the examination hall once the exam has started.
Each candidate will be allotted a roll number and the candidate has to occupy their allotted seat only. If any candidate is found to have changed their place or room without the knowledge of the invigilator or centre superintendent then his candidature will be cancelled.
The candidate should make sure that the question paper shown on the screen is as per their choice of medium of question paper. If it is not so then the candidate should bring it to the notice of the invigilator.
Candidates will not be allowed to carry any baggage or eatables inside the examination hall. If the candidate carries any baggage to the exam centre then the JEE Apex board will not be responsible for such belongings of the candidates.
The candidate should not carry any textual material or electronic devices inside the examination room. If the candidate is found to have such devices then his candidature will be cancelled and the candidate will also be debarred from writing any future examinations.
Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the exam hall.
The exam will begin exactly at the time mentioned in the admit card. The invigilator will make an announcement of the same in the exam hall.
Candidates are not allowed to leave the exam hall without the permission of the exam invigilator or the centre superintendent until the full duration of the exam is over.
All the writing works and calculations have to be done in the rough sheet provided at the centre and after the exam is over candidates has to return the rough sheet to the invigilator on duty in the exam hall.
If the candidate needs any technical assistance or first aid or for any other information then the candidate can approach the invigilator for help.
Candidates are governed by the rules and regulations of the Board with respect to their conduct in the exam hall. If there is any negligence by the candidate then such cases will be dealt under unfair means.

Guidelines to candidates appearing for Pen and Paper based examination of JEE main 2016
Admit card is a mandatory document which a candidate should carry to the examination centre on the day of exam. The admit card is issued to a candidate to satisfy his/her eligibility conditions. The candidate should carefully check whether all the details given in the admit card like Name, Paper, Date of Birth, Gender, Test Center Name, City, State Code of Eligibility and Category are correct and as is mentioned in the application form.
The exam hall will be opened before 30 minutes of the exam timing. If the candidates do not reach the exam centre on time then later they will not be allowed to appear for the exam. If the candidate reaches on time for the exam then there are chances to miss some of the general instructions given in the examination hall. So the candidates are requested to arrive at the exam centre 30 minutes prior to the exam timing.
The candidates will be requested to show their admit card to the invigilator before entering the examination hall. And candidates without admit card will not be allowed to enter the examination hall by the centre superintendent under any circumstances.
Candidates should bring their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers and colour pencils for attending aptitude test in Architecture.
Candidates can bring with them a cardboard or a clip board without anything written on that board. This will help them in filling the responses in the answer sheet with ease even if the tables provided in the exam hall do not have smooth surfaces.
Candidates should bring their own ball point pens in blue or black colour. Pens will not be provided in the exam hall.
The candidates should carry all the necessary documents required for verification by the centre superintendent. The candidates should write their roll number on the top of the documents which are submitted in support of their class XII or its equivalent qualifying exam.
1. Candidates who have appeared for class XII or qualifying examination and have not opted for improvement of performance should submit a copy of their final mark sheet of XII or its equivalent qualifying exam for the year 2014 or 2015.
2. Copy of their hall ticket for candidates who have opted for improvement of performance in all the five subjects in the year 2016.
3. Copy of their hall ticket for candidates who are appearing for class XII or its equivalent qualifying exam in the year 2016.
Candidates should enter the exam hall before the start of the examination and should take their seats as per their allotted roll number. Any candidate who changes their seat or exam hall without the permission of the invigilator or centre superintendent then their candidature will be cancelled. Candidates will not be allowed to enter the exam hall after the commencement of the exam under any circumstances.
Candidates should not carry any electronic gadgets or devices like calculator, cell phone, etc inside the examination hall. If a candidate is found using such things then his candidature will be cancelled and he will also be debarred from appearing in future examinations.
The exam invigilator will issue a sealed test booklet before ten minutes of the exam timing. The test booklet will contain an answer sheet placed inside it.
The test booklet will have a cover page where the candidates are requested to fill the details using a blue or black colour ball point pen only. The invigilator will give instructions for filling the cover page. The candidates are not allowed to open the seal of the test booklet without the announcement of the invigilator.
Pencils are strictly prohibited to use for filling up the answers. If any candidate uses pencil to fill the answer sheet then his/her answer sheet will be rejected.
The candidates can open the test booklet before five minutes of the exam timing after the announcement of the exam invigilator. The candidate can take out the answer sheet and should check whether the Test booklet code printed on the test booklet is same in the side 2 of the answer sheet. If there is any discrepancy then the candidate can report it to the invigilator or test centre superintendent.
The candidate should check that the test booklet contains the same number of pages as mentioned in the top of the first page of the test booklet.
The candidate should also check the serial number and series of the test booklet with the serial number and series of the OMR sheet. If there is any variation then the candidate should return the test booklet and OMR sheet to the exam hall invigilator and get a new test booklet and OMR sheet.
During the exam the invigilator will check the candidate’s admit card to confirm the identity of the candidate. Then the invigilator will put his/her signature on Side 1 in the answer sheet.
No candidate should leave the exam hall without the permission of the exam hall invigilator or centre superintendent before the exam duration is over.
The candidate should not carry any baggage or eatables inside the exam hall. The JEE Apex board will not be responsible if any belongings of the candidates are stolen or lost inside the premises.
All the candidates must follow the rules and regulations strictly instructed by the centre superintendent or the exam hall invigilator.
The invigilator will give a signal at the start of the exam, at the middle of the exam and at the end of the exam timing.
The candidate should sign the attendance sheet while entering the exam hall as well as while handing over the OMR sheet to the invigilator. The candidates will also be asked to keep their left hand thumb impression in the attendance sheet.
