How Bollards Function As Street Furniture

The street is such a busy place for motorists and pedestrians alike. While you cross the street, you would likely see other pedestrians minding their own business as well. Motorists would try to rush for work. In all this busy behaviour of people walking on the street, you would likely not pay so much attention to the street furniture which blended itself to the sidewalk. It would just stay there and will only be noticed whenever someone wants to use it.

Bollards

Bollards are concrete materials that are used to direct traffic on the street. They can also be made out of steel. These are usual fixtures on the street. In order to do their job, they are usually painted in bright colours or reflector colours.

Bollards as Pedestrian Controllers

When there are just too many people roaming on the streets, bollards would be very useful. They do not only direct car traffic but human traffic as well. During occasions when there is more than the normal number of pedestrians, temporary bollards would be placed on the streets. For instance, there might be some festivities on the streets that prompted many pedestrians to come out. In order to direct the flow of the people, temporary bollards, which are in reflector colours still, would be strategically placed to direct the crowd. The bright colours would still be needed to catch the attention of the people.

Bollards as Car Controllers

They are placed on the streets so that the drivers would be directed by them. The reflector colours are still used so they can be easily spotted by drivers. Without these bright colours, they would pose a huge risk to any driver. Moreover, they can also be used to carry posts that would instruct drivers on safe driving.

Bollards for Security and Aesthetics

In some buildings, bollards do not only serve as street furniture. They also serve to secure the buildings as they are placed along the fences or walls of the buildings. To maximise their use, these bollards are also placed to add the value of aesthetics of the building. They can function simultaneously as all of the three things that you want bollards to be. This would not prove to be any problem at all with bollards. They are already colourful because they need to be but they can be added with more design to make them more decorative and festive.

Bollards in Ports

The bollard concrete in ports is used by many boat owners to keep their boats from floating after docking. They are reliable as docking assistants because they are made of concrete or steel anyway.

Like how the current trend is about using these fixtures that were only used and seen on the streets, bollards can also be used now to function as an addition to the beautiful landscape. When the local council has decided to give your streets a uniform look, these bollards should not be exempted too. They should still function to direct traffic and emanate beauty as well.
